The Diagnostic Imaging Research Unit (DIRU) is focused on clinical applied and translational research studies with imaging background.

The aim of the DIRU is therefore to support imaging research projects and imaging services for internal research groups as well as for external partners. Interdisciplinary exchange and incorporation in a network of other professionals are major advantages of DIRU’s position within the university.

The head of the Clinic for Diagnostic Imaging, Prof. Dr. med. vet. Patrick R. Kircher, is board certified in Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging (Dipl. ECVDI). The head of DIRU, Dr. med. vet. Henning Richter, is a Specialised Veterinarian in Laboratory Animal Science (Dipl. SVLAS).

Our small team, which consists of 5 senior clinicians (Dipl. ECVDI), is part of the Clinic for Diagnostic Imaging providing cutting edge imaging equipment. We offer all kind of clinical applied imaging modalities, such as x-ray, ultrasound, CT, MRI, Szintigraphy and biplanar fluoroscopy for small and large animals, phantoms as well as for basic research. Our expertise expands from consulting study design to organization and preparation of animal experiments, imaging examinations, until statistical evaluation, result documentation and publishing.

Technical Expertise:

  • Development and use of animal models in the field of diagnostic imaging research (clinical applied and translational approaches)
  • Technical research platform (advanced development of imaging modalities)
  • Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) associated imaging unit (collaborative partner of GLP accreditated Musculoskeletal Research Unit (MSRU)
