Oliver Nic Hausmann is a Swiss Medical Board certified neurosurgeon. As fellow he specialized in spine and spinal cord related diseases. In this context, his research focused on neuroprotection and later on angiogenesis following acute spinal cord injury. Especially the role of endothelial progenitor cells in neo-vessel formation following spinal cord injury was studied.

Today, he works as neurosurgeon with a spine focus at the Neuro- and Spine Center of the Hirslanden Klinik St. Anna in Lucerne. His main interests are degenerative changes of the aging cervical spine which may manifest finally as chronic myelopathy, a chronic form of spinal cord injury. Another main topic is the application of movement preservation surgical approaches, especially the concepts of artificial disc implants.

His clinical research addresses the quality assessment in spine surgery, especially of cervical and lumbar replacement. In basic research he runs a project of degenerative changes of the cervical disc. This project is in collaboration with Prof. Dr. Karin Würtz-Kozak.

Furthermore, he was president of the Swiss Neurosurgical Society from 2016 - 2018.
